I have been in a subsidised rental unit through Thresholds Homes and Supports and Certunion Properties Associates for the last 8 years and would like to express my overwhelming gratitude for how much it has changed my life for the better. Without having to worry about the high costs of renting, I have been able to go back to school, work on my credit, spend more time with my grandchildren and am overall in a much better place financially than I was a decade ago. I sometimes find myself shocked over the amount of help and support I've been able to get through Thresholds and their housing support, because the solid foundation I've been given has helped me reshape my vision for the future. I now feel equipped to deal with the many problems that arise in daily life, especially the astronomical cost of living. While the future will continue to challenge me, having the subsidy makes it significantly less stressful every single day.

I would like to thank every person who assisted me on this journey - from the landlords, my workers and everyone in between. I would not be the person I am today without this housing partnership because having a home has opened so many doors for me. No amount of "thank-you's" will ever be enough, but I'll be sure to continue to express my gratitude where and when I can.

Thresholds means access to housing for people who are on a fixed income who are also coping with other challenges. Currently, the Ontario Disability Support Program allows $556.00 a month for rent. I personally have no idea where someone like me could get even a single room for such a low amount.

As a client of the agency, I have also learned that Thresholds means so much more than just providing an apartment or home. Thresholds also offers activities on a weekly basis, volunteer opportunities and links everyone living in one of their housing units with a support worker.

I hope that more property owners in the community choose to work with Thresholds. With the guaranteed rent payment from the agency, Tenant Liaisons to help with tenant related issues and support workers to help with other needs, I can't think of a single reason for a landlord not to form a partnership with Thresholds.

If you are a local property owner with rental units, I am asking that you please consider helping out those who are less fortunate in your community to have a safe and affordable place to live. This should be a no brainer because it is the right thing to do. Society and Thresholds needs you.
